Buckthorn benefits consists mostly of the usefulness as a potent laxative / purgative; but, also useful as a menstruation promoter, and has a history of treating cancer.
Buckthorn is a very potent laxative - authorities recommend using this herb as a last resort when other gentler laxatives do not work. You will find the taste initially sweet, then bitter.
However, if you have a problem with constipation, first increase the fiber in your diet, drink more fluids, and get more physical exercise. Use laxatives as a last resort.
